Ioannis Mitsialis is a Cologne, Germany based music composer born in Athens, Greece. He has a major interest in the relationship between music and time and in the role that musical structure and form contribute to this relationship. His music develops in a variety of genres and has been performed in the United States and Europe by numerous ensembles such as Palimpsest, ECCE, Kommas, Schallfeld, Loadbang and Greek Ensemble of Contemporary Music. Conductors whom he has collaborated with include Steven Schick, Christian Ludwig, Theodore Antoniou and Jean-Phillip Wurtz. He holds a PhD in composition from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and Masters degrees from the Musikhochschulen of Leipzig and Hamburg, Germany. Further areas of expertise include analysis of contemporary music and teaching. As an active church organist he has a long-year professional experience in Germany and Greece.
